Tunes

Listen Shoeshine Shuffle

This is track one from BigBandBlast! - a shuffle which is also recorded by The Real Thing on the record deluxe. We hear the end of Kåre Nymark Jr's trumpet solo and the shout chorus which by the way first modulates to Eb and then to G before going back to C :-)

Listen Up Front

This fast latin tune is track nr 2 from BigBandBlast! We enter at the end of Stian Carstensen's accordion solo and listen to the whole shout chorus. Many fast latin songs have a drum solo and this one is no exception, but in order to hear this you have to buy the record ;-)

Listen Moving On

This medium up swingtune is nr 3 on BigBandBlast! Kåre Nymark Jr's trumpetsolo is relieved by the sax chorus. A sax chorhus is a five part saxophone line and this one of the places on the record where the saxofone players Frode Nymo, Atle Nymo og Børge-Are Halvorsen revieles their exceptional quality as musicians.

Listen The Real Thing

Track nr 4 is the "hit" on BigBandBlast! It is a funky tune where Jarle Bernhoft (ex SPAN) does the rapping. The song is originally written as a tribute to the Hammond B3 organ and later in the song Palle Wagnberg plays an organ solo.

Listen Gaudium Reditus

Gaudium Reditus, track nr 5 on BigBandBlast!, is a nice latin song. It was written during my military service the cold winter of 1994. Maybe thats the reason why this recording has a warm summerly feeling :-) We hear the intro and Stian Carstensen's melody presentation on the accordion.

Listen Schmell

Track nr 6 on BigBandBlast! is called Schmell and behind this striking title we find a boogaloo, which also is recorded on the album New Wrapping by The Real Thing. We enters at the end of Even Kruse Skatrud's trombone solo (which by the way finishes at D4 on the instrument) and move on into a drum solo where a play kicks with the rest of the big band.

Listen Adaptive

Track nr 7 is the fastest song on BigBandBlast! (approximately 380 bpm). We hear the end of a fantastic accordion solo by Stian Carstensen - hats off...

Listen Roger That

This back beat song is track nr 8 on BigBandBlast! We hear Anders Aarum on the Fender Rhodes and a small shout chorus before the song fades.

Listen Ad Infinitum

Track nr 9 is the only ballad on BigBandBlast! I wrote this one when I was eighteen and enjoyed working with chords that normally isn't heard together :-) We hear the first part of a beautiful tenor solo by Atle Nymo.

Listen Utopia

It is easy to spot my background as a heavy rocker on track nr 10 from BigBandBlast! :-) I play the fuzz gitar solo on this song, which by the way was one of the things I enjoyed most doing on the record.

Listen The Real Thing

The last track on BigBandBlast! is a radio edit of track nr 4. Some parts of the song has been cut in order to reduce the duration to approximately 3 minutes. We hear the end of Nils Olav Johansen's solo and a little bit further.
